“The Fantasticks” Headed to Stivelman Theater on Nov. 30-Dec. 3

[Posted October 5, 2016] The newly-renovated Stivelman Theater on campus will re-open with four performances of the famed musical, The Fantasticks.

The original “The Fantasticks” opened in New York on May 3, 1960, and played off-Broadway for 17,162 performances before closing on January 13, 2002, making it the longest running musical in history. Winner of a Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre, The Fantasticks is a lyrical and romantic musical that tells an allegorical love story about a boy, a girl, two fathers and a wall.

This beloved musical has been seen in over 67 countries and performed in locations ranging from The Peking Opera to The White House and has become a stable of regional, community, and high school productions virtually since its premiere, with approximately 250 new productions each year. The musical has played throughout the U.S. and with more than 400 foreign productions in 69 countries, and more than 12,000 productions in the U.S., in more than two thousand cities and all fifty states, as well as fifteen national tours.

Under the direction of Ronnie Sperling ‘76 and UCLA’s Beyond the Bell proudly present “The world’s longest running musical;”

  • Nov. 30 – 3:30 p.m.: Special Student Performance
  • Dec. 01 – 7:00 p.m.: Opening Night
  • Dec. 02 – 7:00 p.m.: Weekend Opener
  • Dec. 03 – 2:00 p.m.: Closing Matinee

Tickets are already selling well (run time: 2:00), priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students with identification. You can buy tickets in advance by credit card here (buyer pays credit card and handling fee), or in cash (only) on-campus at the University High School Student Store, or at the Box Office before each performance. Holders of valid Warriors & Wildcats Activity Cards are admitted free, of course!

All performances at the Stivelman Theater at University High School (11800 Texas Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90025). The theater itself will be one of the stars of the show, with an all-new lobby, flooring, seating, lighting and sound systems. Ample street parking is available. Refunds available only up to the day prior to the show. Refunds will not be issued for missed performances.
